Spiritual Formation Discovery Process                                         Bill O’Byrne

Participants will get a taste of the Imago Christi Spiritual Formation “Discovery Process” which introduces a common language and practices of spiritual formation for a congregation and provides the basis for spiritual formation coaching training that is accessible and affordable for ministry leaders.

bill oBill O’Byrne was an overseas missionary with Church Resource Ministries (CRM) in Saint Petersburg, Russia from 1993 to 2015 with his wife Priscilla, where they raised four children. Bill taught Spiritual Formation and Biblical Studies at Saint Petersburg Christian University for 18 years. During Bill’s tenure in Russia, he co-founded the Order of Imago Christi within CRM in 2004. Bill and his family moved to the US in 2015 to take up the team leadership role in Imago Christi and presently live near Denver, CO.

 

Connecting Kids with God                                                      Gordon and Becki West

For too long, we’ve taught kids about God and haven’t connected them with God. Experience child-friendly spiritual practices that you can use at home or church to give kids time with God.

westsGordon and Becki West are the founders and leaders of KidZ at Heart International, a Phoenix-based non-profit working in more than 40 countries around the world to equip adults to nurture the Christian spiritual formation of the children of their own culture. The Wests are authors (including The Discipline Guide for Children’s Ministry, Preteen Ministry Smart Pages, Devotions for People Who Love Kids) and have a passion for equipping leaders across the U.S. and beyond.

 

Healing the Brokenhearted                                                 Danny Mullins

Immanuel Prayer is a model of inner healing prayer that we will explain, explore, and experience in our time together​.

Danny Mullins 2 8x12 FODanny has been in full time vocational ministry since 1979. During that time he has served as a senior pastor, associate pastor, and worship pastor in congregations in Texas and Arizona.  He received his training in spiritual direction from Sustainable Faith’s School of Spiritual Direction and has been a member of that faculty since 2015.  For the past sixteen years, he has been on staff at Vineyard Community Church in Gilbert, Arizona, where he ministers in the areas of spiritual formation, spiritual direction, and inner healing prayer.

 

 

Formational Worship                                                       Justin Fox

In this workshop, you’ll learn how to think through leading worship that takes into account the ways that our spirits are formed into His image.

justin fox.pngJustin currently serves as Pastor of Worship at Grace Community Church in Seal Beach and as a Spiritual Director for Grafted Life and Biola University. He’s created original music throughout the last two decades that span ten albums and still passionate about developing fresh pathways for believers to experience a deeper sense of God’s presence and purpose in their lives. Holding a master’s degree from Biola University (Spiritual Formation and Soul Care), he’s trained in many facets of spiritual guidance, supervision of spiritual directors, and various retreat approaches including the Exercises of St. Ignatius. His passion is to walk alongside others as they discover their unique calling and freedom in Christ. He and his wife of 24 years live in Southern California, and have four children, ages 14-21.

 

Community that is Spiritually Forming                                           Cheri Hudspith

This workshop will examine those practices and patterns in community life that can foster and hinder spiritual formation. Practical examples and discussion will support the teaching and insights into healthy, forming community.

cheriCheri Hudspith does Leadership Development for Grafted Life Ministries. She is also a Supervisor for Selah-West, a spiritual direction training program, and a Spiritual Director. She lives in a northern suburb of Dallas and is a lay-leader in a non-denominational Bible church. She is a graduate of Fuller Theological Seminary with a Master of Arts in Theology. Leaders are her favorite people. She loves to be around a table listening to a great story or out exploring the world with her husband Dave.

 

Spiritual Formation 101                                                     John DelHousaye

This workshop will cover the basics of Spiritual Formation, define terms, and explore the differences between SF and discipleship.

face shot for SFDr. John DelHousaye teaches Greek, New Testament, and Spiritual Formation at Phoenix Seminary. He holds a PhD in New Testament from Fuller Theological Seminary. John has pastored flocks in California and Arizona and serves on the Advisory Council of Hope Women’s Center. His wife, Tiffany, is the manager of the Phoenix Center. They have three children.

 

 

How to Introduce SF into a Church Culture                                    Ted Wueste

Introducing spiritual formation into a church can be tricky. In this workshop, learn how to navigate the issues that can present themselves with any change to a church culture and particularly when introducing formation.

Dr. Ted Wueste is the Director of the SFSAZ. He is a pastor in Arizona. For the last 25 years, he has served in various ministry capacities with the last 20 years being in pastoral ministry. After serving as an associate pastor, Ted planted a church that he pastored for 10 years and then served as Spiritual Formation Pastor. Ted enjoys a ministry of spiritual direction and teaching in the broader community and around the country. He serves as an adjunct professor and as the Assistant Director of Spiritual Formation at Phoenix Seminary. Finally, Ted also serves with Selah, a training program for spiritual directors, as Senior Faculty.

 

Essential Keys for Effective Formation Curricula                        Debbie Swindoll

Curriculum used in growing followers of Christ can be incredibly helpful in spurring deep, lasting change. However, some curriculum is not as helpful. In this workshop, you will learn how to evaluate studies considering foundational elements that encourage lasting change and developmental growth.

Debbie is the founder of Grafted Life Ministries. She serves as the producer and teacher of Grafted Life’s formation and training products. Debbie writes, speaks, and consults on issues of relational theology and spiritual leadership. She also ministers as a spiritual director for both individuals and groups. Debbie received her MA in Spiritual Formation and Soul Care from Talbot School of Theology in 2007.

 

 

 

Soul Care’s Home: Spiritual Direction in the Life of the Church     Susan Currie

This workshop offers a theological and practical exploration of spiritual direction at its healthiest: a quiet yet deep practice that supports, interprets, and nurtures our engagement with the Lord as he shapes us through the wider ministries of the church.

susan currieSusan Porterfield Currie serves with Leadership Transformations, Inc. as an Associate for Spiritual Formation and the Director of the Selah Certificate Program in Spiritual Direction. In addition to her ministry with Selah, Susan offers individual spiritual direction and retreat leadership to ministry leaders and churches, and spiritual formation nurture to seminary students at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in Massachusetts. With her husband Dave (a Dean at Gordon-Conwell), she has recently become assisting clergy at All Saints’ Anglican Cathedral in Amesbury MA. Susan holds a Dmin and MATS from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary.

 

 

The Key and Stumbling Block for Spiritual Formation                    Tom Ashbrook

How can we lead people into deeper loving intimacy with the Trinity in a society that has trivialized their understanding of love and sexualized intimacy? This workshop will examine the essential role that love plays in our relationship with God.

unnamedDr. Tom Ashbrook has served as the co-founder and team leader for Church Resource Ministries’ (CRM) international spiritual formation ministry, The Order of Imago Christifor the past 15 years.  As a missionary with Imago Christi, Tom develops spiritual formation resources and coaches Christian leaders and churches to live and lead with a spiritual authority grounded in loving intimacy with Jesus.  He provides spiritual direction and coaching for pastors, churches, and missionaries in various parts of the world and teaches in spiritual formation discovery seminars and other spiritual formation settings. Before Imago Christi, he served as a Lutheran pastor for 26 years. He lives with his wife Charlotte in Pagosa Springs, Colorado.

 

Spiritual Leadership in the Local Church                                       Steve Macchia

How can we exhibit spiritual leadership unless we first know what it means? In this workshop, we will unpack a biblical definition and consider potential expressions together – be sure bring your wisdom and experience!

Stephen Macchia is founder and president of Leadership Transformations, the director of the Pierce Center for Disciple-Building at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, and the author of 12 books, including Crafting a Rule of Life (IVP), Broken and Whole (IVP), and the Baker bestseller, Becoming a Healthy Church (Baker). He is husband to his bride of 38 years, Ruth, and the proud father of two grown children, Nathan and Rebekah.

 

 

 

Youth: Connecting the Dots in Community                                           Chris Lyons

Based on the latest research about what helps young people ‘stick with’ their faith, this workshop takes seriously the practical ways that intentional community and relationships of accountability within churches (and youth ministries) help students transition from high school without graduating from their faith.

chris lyonsChris has been serving as Pastor to Youth and Families for the last six years at Longview Community Church, a non-denominational congregation in Longview, WA. He is involved in the youth ministry network in his area and loves engaging city-wide opportunities to serve the young people of his community. Chris’ passion is to see youth grow in their personal relationship with Jesus Christ being anchored in community, all the while nurturing and inspiring family-based faith in the midst of inter-generational connections within the church. Chris received his M.Div. from George Fox Evangelical Seminary in 2002 and completed his Doctor of Ministry degree from Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary in 2016. Chris’ wife, Lisa, is a school nurse and amazing partner in ministry and they have three children, Katie, Nikki, and Joey.

 

Teaching/Preaching for Spiritual Formation                              Ted Wueste

Often, preaching and teaching connects with the mind, but misses the rest of the soul. In this workshop, you’ll look at the various aspects of the human self and how teaching and preaching can connect holistically.

Missional Spiritual Formation                                                    J.D. Ward

This workshop will examine the integration of Formation and Mission in order to release people into the mission of God. We will look at how to create missional communities in local churches through a formation process that ignites people’s hearts for the poor and deepens their intimacy with God.

JD-Ward-pic-croppedJD leads the ReWire Team with Church Resource Ministries since 2009.  ReWire offers spiritual formation materials and processes that help create missional hearts in lay people and trains pastors to learn an approach to discipleship called Missional Spiritual Formation. JD has served for 30 years mobilizing people into ministry with the poor.  His call to serve the poor directly has led him to work with gang affiliated youth, juvenile detention centers, the homeless, low income seniors living in nursing homes, and managing projects in Ethiopia and Kenya. He has worked at University Presbyterian Church in Seattle Washington, Menlo Park Presbyterian Church, and Lakeside Presbyterian Church in San Francisco, and the Northwest Leadership Foundation. JD and his wife Tracy live in the Bay Area of California. They have 7 grown sons. JD graduated from Seattle Pacific University in Business Management and received his M.DIV. from Fuller Theological Seminary.
