Psalm 40:8-11

8I take joy in doing your will, my God,
    for your instructions are written on my heart.”

I have told all your people about your justice.
    I have not been afraid to speak out,
    as you, O Lord, well know.
10 I have not kept the good news of your justice hidden in my heart;
    I have talked about your faithfulness and saving power.
I have told everyone in the great assembly
    of your unfailing love and faithfulness.

11 Lord, don’t hold back your tender mercies from me.
    Let your unfailing love and faithfulness always protect me.

Reflection:

Take a few moments to settle yourself into quiet with God. Ask for the eyes and ears of your heart to be open. Read through these verses slowly, out loud if you’re able, pausing at the end of each line. As you read notice if there’s a word or a phrase that stands out to you or an image that comes to mind. Take a moment to write down what stands out to you. Then read through the passage slowly again. Again write down what is brought to your attention. Read through a third time, and again, notice what draws your heart’s attention. Take this to your paper. Spend time in quiet with the words, images or phrases that you wrote down. Is there a question? Write it down. Is there something that connects the thoughts? Or reminds you of something in your week? Take a moment to write it down as a prayer with God.
