Isaiah 42
5 Thus says God, the Lord,
who created the heavens and stretched them out,
who spread out the earth and what comes from it,
who gives breath to the people upon it
and spirit to those who walk in it:
6 I am the Lord; I have called you in righteousness;
I have taken you by the hand and kept you;
I have given you as a covenant to the people,
a light to the nations,
7 to open the eyes that are blind,
to bring out the prisoners from the dungeon,
from the prison those who sit in darkness.
8 I am the Lord; that is my name;
my glory I give to no other,
nor my praise to idols.
Acts 17:28 ‘For in him we live and move and have our being.’
“He belongs to you, but more than that, He longs to be in you, living and ruling in you… He wants His breath to be in your breath, His heart in your heart, and His soul in your soul.” St. John Eudes
Reflection:
Read the scripture above and the quote slowly, maybe even a few times. First, we invite you to notice your breath, your being, the Spirit that gives you life. Take a minute to just sit with your breath with God. What do you notice? Does it make a sound? Is it fast or slow? Deep or shallow? How do you notice your body moving with your breath. Take a moment to acknowledge that it is THIS breath, the grace in this moment that sustains your existence.
Give gratitude with God for your breath and for the Spirit that dwells within.
*Bonus – create a breath prayer. On the inhale choose the name for which you want to acknowledge God today. It can be as simple as “God of mercy” or even just “Jesus”. And then choose whatever it is your heart and soul desire God to meet you in today. Again it can be simple like “be with me” or “open my eyes”. Pray your breath prayer at least five times.
