Psalm 119:37
Turn my eyes from worthless things,
and give me life through your word.
Psalm 121: 1
I look up to the mountains—
does my help come from there?
Reflection
Take a few nice deep breaths and read the Psalms above slowly. Repeatedly throughout scripture the writers suggest the readers “look up” or shift their gaze. Research from neuroscientist Fred Previc (University of Texas at San Antonio) shows that when we look above the horizon, it activates areas of our brains that are usually engaged during meditation, dreaming, religious experiences and creative activities. So today, we invite you to a silent meditative prayer of looking up with God. Start a time for at least two minutes and shift your open eyed gaze upward.
When we shift our gaze upward we engage in a pathway of awe. Hold your time of looking up with God in gratitude.
